Richard III (The Bridge Project) in Sydney

This week Matt was lucky enough to be invited to Opening night of ‘Richard III’ at Star City’s Lyric Theatre in Sydney.

His friend Chuk Iwuji was playing Buckingham and managed to organise tickets for the show and after parties.

He met Kevin Spacey who is playing ‘Richard III’ in this fantastic production (directed by Sam Mendes).  It is touring the world and this is one of the last stops before New York where the project wraps up.  If you can get along to see it, go! You will not regret it!

Theatre Of The Dead

Matt has been cast in one of the lead roles in an exciting new zombie/horror film called ‘Theatre Of The Dead’.

It is written and directed by Patrick Gallagher and will be shot in Canberra in early 2012.

Matt will be playing Zach (a theatre director) who turns on his cast members when the zombie theatre develops outside the theatre where they are rehearsing.  For more info visit the ‘Theatre Of The Dead‘ website.

‘Bard On The Beach’ at Balmoral Rotunda

Matt has been cast in the inaugural season of ‘Bard On The Beach’ at Balmoral Rotunda.

He will be playing Banquo in ‘Macbeth’ and Sir Toby Belch in ‘Twelfth Night’.

The season runs from mid-January to early March on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Kyle Rowling will be directing ‘Macbeth’.  Patricia Cotter will be directing ‘Twelfth Night’.

Stairwell

Matt has been cast in a new play in Sydney.

It is called ‘Stairwell’ and will be on at the Old Fitzroy Tavern in Woolloomooloo from Oct 16th to 22nd.

The play is being produced by Spoon Rhythm Productions in association with Operating Theatre and the Tamarama Rock Surfers.

It is a new Australian play by playwrite Phoebe Leonard.  Matt will be playing Man 2 and Bernard.  The other cast members are: Andrew Cutcliffe, Felix Gentle, Nick Hunter, Phoebe Leonard, Emma Leonard and Cath McGraffin.

The play will be directed by Jo-Anne Cahill.

Bernice Summerfield (Big Finish)

Today Matt spent the day recording some voices for the next Bernice Summerfield audiobook through ‘Big Finish’ (director: Gary Russell).

Matt voiced three characters: Ikerian (a space munchkin), Surlioid 2 (a menacing intergalactic plumber) and the ship’s computer (a bored computer programme).

The audiobook is due for release in October 2012 as part of a box set. Available through the ‘Big Finish‘ website.

Other voice actors are Lisa Bowerman, Cameron Blakeley, Miles Richardson (also the writer) and Andrew Macklin.

Welcome To The Punch

This week Matt spent two days on-set playing a hospital visitor in the new feature film from director, Eran Creevy. It is called ‘Welcome To The Punch’ and will be released in 2012.

The stars of the film are Andrea Riseborough (fresh from a stint playing Wallis Simpson in the Madonna directed movie ‘W.E’) and James McAvoy (of ‘X-Men First Class’ fame).

Also starring are Mark Strong and David Morrissey.

New York City International Film Festival – ‘Mirabilis’

The short film where Matt plays a deaf man has been accepted into the New York City International Film Festival in August 2011. For the film, Matt had to learn all of his lines in Auslan. The film features around Warren, a deaf man, meeting his long lost daughter for the first time in many years. There is however a rather major twist at the end! Matt will hopefully be attending the festival (other work commitments permitting).

The Lady Of Pleasure

Matt has been cast as a gallant called ‘Littleworth’ in the play ‘The Lady of Pleasure’.

It is a 17th century comedy by James Shirley and will be performed at The White Bear Theatre in Kennington from August 2nd – 21st 2011. The director is David Cottis.

Black Pudding – An Olympic Bloodsport

Today Matt spent the afternoon shooting a short film for the Virgin Media Shorts Competition.

He played a character called Dave Ramsbottom who was a black pudding throwing champion. The film is a mockumentary style comedy about the Olympic Games in 2012 and two competitive pudding throwers.

Sitcom on E4

Matt has been cast in a lead role in a new 8-part TV sitcom.

It is all highly confidential at the moment as it is still in the early stages of development.

BBC ‘Epic Win’

This Monday Matt will be shooting one of the opening sequences for the new BBC prime time show ‘Epic Win’.

He will be playing a butcher in a gang going head to head with a rival gang of butchers. The shoot is near Waterloo station.

Royal Shakespeare Company

Matt went to Stratford-Upon-Avon today to attend the RSC Open Day.

He met with Hannah Miller (Head Of RSC Casting) for a fifteen minute casting surgery to discuss career progression.

He also sat down with Cicely Berry, renowned RSC voice coach.

Macbeth

Matt spent last weekend in Hobart, Tasmania, for the first of several weekends on-set for the feature film version of ‘Macbeth’ that is being shot just outside of Hobart.

Macbeth will be played by John Xintavalonis.  Matt will be playing the Thane Of Ross. Shooting continues over the Easter weekend and for a few months at the end of 2011.

A Few Best Men

This week Matt spent two days on set of the film ‘A Few Best Men’.  The film is the latest project from the director of ‘Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert’, Stephan Elliott and was shooting in the Blue Mountains.  The film stars Australian legend, Olivia Newton-John, Xavier Samuel (Twilight Eclipse), Kris Marshall, Kevin Bishop and Laura Brent.  Matt was a wedding guest at Dave (Xavier Samuel) and Mia’s (Laura Brent) wedding.

Careless Love

Matt has been cast as a funeral director in ‘Careless Love’ – the latest feature from Award Winning Director John Duigan (pictured left) who has worked with a number of Hollywood stars, including Charlize Theron, Hugh Grant, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Sam Rockwell.

‘Careless Love’ centres on Linh, an Australian Vietnamese university student who starts work as an escort to save her parents’ house from being repossessed. When she falls for a fellow student her two worlds collide and things get complicated.

Museum – Optus 180 Project

This week Matt shot a 3-minute teaser for a TV pilot as part of the Optus 180 Project (directed, written and featuring Simon Chapman).

The Optus 180 Project is a competition where people submit 3-minute (180 second) clips that shows a taste of a possible TV series and the winner gets money to make their show.  Votes will be tallied at the Optus 180 project site.  See the video trailer on Matt’s video page!

Mediacom Recruitment

This week Matt shot a recruitment commercial for Sydney media company, Mediacom.

In the ad Matt plays the ‘boss from hell’ who you do NOT want to meet in an interview.  The ad will air from January 17th 2011 on Channel Ten, 7Mate, Go! and MTV.

David Lynch Music Video – A Good Day Today

Today Matt shot a music video (directed by Kathy Luu). The track was called ‘A Good Day Today’ and was written by Hollywood A-list director, David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, etc).

The video was part of a competition to come up with a good visual accompaniment for the music track.  David Lynch himself will be judging and the director of the best video will receive some cash and international acclaim! Check out the video on Matt’s video page.

Sellouts – Feature film

Matt has been cast in the feature film ‘Sellouts’.  He will be playing Mr Wimple – the slightly creepy headmaster of a private boys’ school and a director of the board of the Australian Theatre Company.

‘Sellouts’ is a brutal black comedy that tears open the worlds of Gen-Y targeted advertising, Gen-Y targeted entertainment, and the Gen-Y targets themselves. It is the feature film debut of writer/director Nikos Andronicos, who was senior writer on Channel 10’s the Ronnie Johns Half-Hour at 23, writer/co-director of MTV USA’s Psychotown [produced by Mike ‘Beavis & Butthead’ Judge] at 26, and now onto his first feature at 29.

Produced by Backseat Rebel and experienced low-budget feature producer Tania Frampton, ‘Sellouts’ will be principally filmed around inner Sydney over 20 days in Jan/Feb 2011. The cast will feature some of Australia’s most talented up-and-comers including Andrea Demetriades, Andrew Johnston, James McFay, as well as notorious comedians Sam Simmons and Heath “Chopper” Franklin.  ‘Sellouts’ was cast by Kathy Luu.

Letting Go

This weekend Matt spent three days on-set for a short film called ‘Letting Go’.

It was filmed at Rosebery at the International Film School (Sydney).

Matt played the father of the heroine, Josie, who gets killed in a car crash. Josie was driving and has survivors guilt and keeps on hallucinating that her parents are still alive.

The post-crash scene required some nasty looking wound make-up!

Director was Angus Mullane and DOP was his brother, Jackson Mullane.

Volsonics – So You Know….

Matt recently played the part of Sam the street sweeper in a music video for Australian band ‘Volsonic’.

The video was directed by Luke Blair.  It will be released in December 2010.

Callback – TV Pilot

Today Matt appeared in a new TV pilot called ‘Callback’. He played an actor attending an ‘audition from hell’.

The TV pilot is being made by Indianic Pictures.

Irish actor Deborah Bradshaw is starring (and producing).  Other cast members include Matt Rosner, Peter McAllum, and Rebecca Clay.

Matt’s scenes were shot in Balmain and in a studio on the North Shore.

Rope on Channel 10 News

This afternoon at 5.30pm, Matt’s current play ‘Rope’ featured in a segment on the Channel Ten news.

The segment was presented by Angela Bishop and included an interview with Alfred Abraham who was the preview projectionist for Alfred Hitchcock for the original film version of ‘Rope’ in the 1940s.

The Suspects (formerly Crimes, Lies & Alibis)

Matt’s episode of ‘The Suspects’ (The Shampoo Arsonist) went to air on Channel 7 last night (22/9/2010) at 10.30pm.  He played the head detective in the arson squad in a real life crime reconstruction.  The director was Jif Morrison.

East West 101

Matt spent the day on set yesterday for Episode 14 of Season 3 of ‘East West 101′ (the SBS police series). He will be playing Criminal Investigation Unit Officer, Rory King.  The episode will air later in the year.

The show was cast by Christine King Casting in Sydney.  The director was Peter Andrikidis.

Johnnie Walker & Steve Waugh

Matt just spent the day on a shoot for a TV commercial for Johnnie Walker whisky.

It was shot at the Sydney Cricket Ground and will feature Steve Waugh.  The ad will probably air in the televised cricket matches over the Southern hemisphere summer this Dec/Jan/Feb.
